November 2019 – Uganda’s interior minister Mario Obiga Kania ordered some 12,000 non-governmental organizations to shut down their operations immediately, after they missed a re-registration deadline. The Ugandan Daily Monitor newspaper reports, that only 2,000 (mostly foreign) NGOs, managed to renew their licenses before the year-long exercise wound up in September.
